Brake booster woes / interchangability 1987 1986 ? Posted by SaabDude [Email] (#370) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SaabDude) on Mon, 8 Oct 2012 22:09:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello all. I'm experiencing issues with my brake booster on my '87 900T 'vert and need some sage guidance from the wise ones.
My 87 is an early 87, as it still has SOLID rotors, not vented.
Researching old posts has left me still wondering...
i've done some homework online and locally, and am wondering if I can use an '86 brake booster?
It seems that the websites denote a difference between 86 and 87. different boosters and different master cylinders.
for 87 the info for the booster is:
NAPA: NBB 535091 (return and rebuild only)
A1 CARDONE: 53-5091 (return and rebuild only)
CENTRIC: 160.88077 (not sure of this vendor status yet)
for 86 the info for the boster is:
NAPA: NBB 535090
A1 CARDONE: 53-5090
CENTRIC: 160.88043
The prices for the 86 are nearly 1/2 of the 87, and looking at the pictures, the only difference is a 3-pronged valve for 86; whereas 87 only has a 1 pronged valve.
Were the braking systems really that different between 86 and 87?
Thoughts?
Thanks,
SaabDude
