I appreciate your point, but a set of boots and grease is about the same cost as the bargain basement axles. Not wishing to start an esoteric argument, but I would respectfully disagree that the crappy Chinese axles are a good solution under any but the most extreme circumstances.
If your boots are just torn (not yet crapped out), I'd argue that repacking them only takes about a 1-1.5 hours, which is far less time than the later swap that some of these crappy axles will bring down on you sooner than you'd like.
Also, rarely is this an emergency repair, and so even if your axle is crapped out, you've typically got plenty of time to get a good used axle from a junk yard yard or FleaBay to rebuild. The downside is that this approach doubles your cost (my last used axles cost $50-75), but I think it is worth it.
I suppose if you break an axle and it is your daily driver, anything to get you back on the road is worth the hassle. However, my Saab is my daily driver and I did not find the approach described above to be overly burdensome. I would also note that I am a bit OCD and keep a ridiculous stable of spare parts in an 8x10' shed out back, LOL.
