Yes, there is a fuel level sending unit in the tank. You can access it by removing the cargo area floor (two torx screws IIRC). It's held in the tank with a special ring. You can make a tool to remove it with a piece of 2"-1.5" PVC reducer that you file some notches in (see pic). The sender has a plastic cap that holds the electrical connections, and an aluminum canister that holds the float and the float guide rails. The canister separates from the cap. If you're lucky, the coil wire that connects the cap to the float is still connected and you can fish the whole shebang out of the tank. If you can get the pieces out, you can re-solder the connections and put the canister back on the cap. You need to make sure that the guide rails in the canister remain parallel when you put it back together (not helically twisted) or the float won't slide up and down properly. You can epoxy the canister to the cap, or just put a couple small brads through the canister into the plastic to hold it together.
If it's lost to the bottom of the tank, you'll have to get a replacement. I think you'll have to go used as the later senders are NLA. The electrical connection changed.
