I have an 88 Vert and the same issue when I don't take her out often enough. I took a couple hours and went through the entire fuse panel to find where the voltage drain was... turns out its the automatic door locks. It was drawing 20 milliamps and was just enough to kill the battery in a couple weeks. I have installed a disconnect on the ground side of the battery. Bought it from Peep Boys for about $15.00. The Optima stays charged and it just means I have to throw the switch before I can start it... That and the programmed stations on the radio are gone. But no more battery problems. I can post a photo if you'd like to try it.
