Scanav,
I don't quite get your symptoms, but here's my input:
- Check your brake fluid reservoir for the brake fluid. Twice! (sounds a bit insane, but easy things first AND I know lots of failures that sounded very complex initially, but turned out to be some obvious things that were forgotten)
- I assume you've got the whole Main Hydraulic Unit assembled, e.g. you do not have the accumulator removed and you aren't looking at its port to go gushing once you turn the ignition on - it is not designed to do it that way.
- Once you turn on the ignition, give it three to five seconds and then apply the brakes. Do you feel any power assistance or the pedal is firm as a rock? Switch off the ignition.
- - If there is no power assistance, check the supply hose which runs from the reservoir to the pump. You might need to remove and bleed it to be sure. If you've got the brake fluid in the tank and the hose is good, then your pump is kaputt and must be replaced. You may replace the only pump - not the whole assembly - although it will require the whole main hydraulic unit to be removed from the car.
- - If you feel your brakes to be more or less power-assisted, then check your indicators in the instrument cluster and report back here. But statistically it gonna be either ABS relay (which went stuck in closed position) or pressure switch or some wiring connector which either went off or was damaged. Do not keep the ignition on (or moreover - drive the car) for more then 15 seconds until you fix the issue, otherwise you gonna fry your brake pump. The pump is designed to continuously operate in 20/100 mode (20 seconds of run to be followed with resting 100 seconds).
With more symptoms you come, the more detailed input you have.
Good luck,
Zig
P.S.
If the brake fluid hasn't been changed every 24 months or more often, then you might want start searching for a new Main Hydraulic Unit. This system is more unforgiving than the old ones.
