I put both sides of the car on jack stands at the lift points near the door pivot, I pick the car up with a floor jack at the center brace to do this.
Then I move the floor jack under the lower A arm and raise and watch the upper A arm move, insert the SAAB tool to brace the upper arm. (I have used LARGE open ended wrenches when the tool is not available, seems to work).
I have a large hydraulic spring compressor with 2 sizes of end cups, don't bother as you can't get it in place.... So I purchased a $30 ish (been awhile so forget the price) cheap spring compressor set with long bolts and claw attachments with safety pits. I added some extra washer to allow spinning AND cut a piece of EMT to push the lower claw up closer to the spring and yet keep the bolt from running to far up and into the wheel well. basically spacers to keep everything in the working space. put one as far as possible on each side of the spring and get out the 1/2 socket set and go for it. Then I put B & G springs in place. I have also done this to put the stock springs back in place, but that is a little tricky as you need to clock the compressors so that the fit in the working space.
picture of a car I previously did this too.
