never done this, but as I understand it, the harmonic balancer test goes something like this. Draw a line perpendicular to the crank pulley?parallel to the crankshaft with a yellow grease pencil. white-out, or some other paint.marking that is easy to see. Dive around for a few days, if your line is still straight (no shift), your harmonic balancer is fine.
If your car bounces on engaging the clutch (particularly if the shifter itself can be seen to jerk, chances are you have a bad front motor mount. I have experienced this one. Might also get a bit funky if the passenger side mount is bad as well. The driver's side mount rarely fails since the torque of the engine is always into this mount (no significant tension on it).
