Norwegian Independence Day.
Very early in the 20th century, Norway and Sweden had separate parliaments, but one King, ruling from Stockholm. The Norwegians then sent their army to the Swedish border and demanded that they be allowed to have their own king (a prince from Denmark was willing to volunteer). After a few days of the two armies shouting at one another and pretending to be about to do military things, the Swedish king decided to let the Norwegians have their independence.
After the discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea, 60 years later, the Swedes had some serious economic reasons to regret it.
I intended to put this post in the "General" column, but I messed up.
