Hello all,
A 900 buddy of mine spent months and months sorting out his '84 900 8-valve turbo, only to be t-boned after just two weeks on the road.
We have finally found a suitable body to receive all the delicious parts from the salvaged wreck.
The receiver is an '86 non-turbo 8 valve with a dead automatic transmission.
I've done an automatic to manual conversion previously, but both the donor and receiver were '84 8-valve non-turbo cars.
This case is somewhat more complicated as the receiver is two years newer, and the donor engine is turbocharged.
The receiving car is not wired for APC, but I am confident that I can cleanly graft in the APC system from the donor car.
I suspect I can just swap the ignition amplifiers, and not have to mess with any of the ignition wiring as it appears to be essentially the same on the non-turbo and turbo 8V cars...
What I am worried about is CIS! I know plenty about LH-jet, but K-jet is somewhat of a mystery to me...
Just looking at the wiring in the two engine bays, things look somewhat different -- the '84 seems to use all one-pin spade connectors for everything, while the '86 has multi-pin plugs which look more LH-jetronic-ey.
Can I just use the sensors and bits from the later engine, or do I need to swap all the wiring from the '84?
Further, I imagine that some of the control relays are different? The Turbo car has some provision for the overboost switch to cut power to the fuel pump, perhaps full throttle enrichment which the NA system might not have, that sort of thing??
I suspect the fuel pumps are the same... but what about every other CIS component?
What about the lambda control system? I haven't pulled the two control units to see if the wiring looks the same, but since they are mostly doing things at idle and part throttle, perhaps I can just leave the entire non-turbo system in place?
Many thanks for any advice!
Bests,
