The Omnicool sits on the passenger's side, right by the turbo. Any time you are not moving at a good speed it's a giant heat sink for heat coming off the exhaust. It's been a long time since I even thought of it, but the core itself is a bit smaller than a 16v core, although it probably flows a little better. Regardless, it's placement is the problem.
FWIW, IIRC, back in the '80s Omnicool used the same core for a variety of applications - Volvo, turboford, Saab, probably others. They used a fairly small core so that they fit it anywhere and change the piping. They got their lunch money taken, though, as it didn't take long for manufacturers to start including intercoolers from the factory, and the factory intercooler were always superior. Ford's top-mount (right over the turbo!) intercooler was still superior to Omnicool's - that's how bad it was. :(
Had they used different cores for different applications, they might have been defensible, but making a core small enough to fit anywhere and then fitting it anywhere wasn't, ultimately, a good plan. ;)
