Convertible top just stopped....pump runs

I have had no issues whatsoever with my convertible top operation in the 5 years I have had my car. It raises and lowers properly, but the pump MAY be a bit louder than others I have heard. Its definitely not like 'gravel in a coffee can' loud though.
Last night before the rains came, I went to raise the top and it went about 1/4 of the way like normal, then just hung in the air. The pump runs properly, but movement slowed to a snails pace. With some hand-assistance I managed to help it along to the closed position, but normally when the top would touch the windshield and everything reached the max position, the pump would groan in a "I can't close it any further" manner, which seems normal.
Now, the pump seems like its kind of free-wheeling, and doesn't do the maxed-out groan.
I have not pulled the rear seat to see what I have going on. Assume that electrically all is well.
Any recommendations?
