Not really. The biggest issue is that you couldn't only even attempt this without the engine out, or maybe the cylinder head off, as the evaporator won't clear the engine when you slide it out of the firewall. Even then, I'm not positive you could slide the whole thing either forwards or backwards through the radiator crossmember - I think that would need to be removed as well. I think you'd need a pretty barren engine bay to even have a hope of making this work.
I would be surprised if junkyards don't at least mostly drain the system. Maybe they wouldn't do a perfect job, but they'd do the bulk of it. Not draining it would be an EPA violation in short order, and I suspect recovering refrigerant would be a healthy side business for them.
