To some, that wiper may be worth something.

The wiper mounts to the hatch, and the shaft goes through the hole in the glass. Wiring and the hose for the washer fluid are routed through the headliner.

It was briefly available in the USA as an accessory, but sold poorly. Part of the reason is the ONLY thing Saab did to "prep" the US cars for it was have a different hatch glass with the hole plugged (which long outlasted the wiper accessory in the US). There was rather a lot of labor that went into installing it, including taking the hatch apart to mount the motor, removing the headliner, routing the wires and hose, drilling a hole for the washer, etc. By contrast, installing cruise control on a car that didn't have it was very easy, less than an hour's work.

As I recall, the wiper kit cost nearly $450, and the labor to install it came in at very nearly the same amount (and this is long BEFORE $120/hr dealer labor rates!).

At $450 - kinda cool. At $900 - not so cool.

Oh - most of the reason it didn't sell in the US, is it really, really is NOT necessary on a C900 hatch (or a 9000, ftm). The car's aerodynamics keep the rear window clean, unless the snow/rain gets really bad, or you've got stuff on the roof that changes the airflow.

My 9-5 wagon, OTOH, does benefit from it. (There's a neat programming trick in DICE, where, whether or not you have the rear wiper switched on, if the front wipers are on, and you shift to reverse, the rear starts wiping in intermittent mode as long as it's in reverse.)
