Bro's 87 spg has bad head gasket...leak is big - total hydraulic lock. Removed plugs & cranked over w/15' geyser shooting out of #1 cylinder. Bro stranded & missing work, so we tried 32oz bottle of K&W "nano fibre tech kevlar HG/block seal" (jeez $36!) --- no improvement. Drained out oil & got x6 quarts of chocolate milk.
Sooo, ordering HG gasket kit....whattabot replacing the timing chain & sliders? Car has 325k mi & passing up "head off access" opportunity strikes me as unwise...but if it ain't broke? I happen to have a new IWIS timing chain (w/master link) collecting dust.
I've has a few heads off before & don't need any specific advice regarding the HG replacement procedure...but it's been a few years, so any general extraneous "you oughta" tips are welcome. I will re-consult the Townsend Imports & Fix My Saab sites as well.
Alt bushings done x4 yrs/90k ago & I'm tempted to put another set in (no warnings necessary re worthless polyurethane bushings).
Thanks & sorry not here much any more...I have kids now.
