Argghhh - dead again 1980 T - longish Posted by Fogline [Email] (#1152) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Fogline) on Sat, 24 Aug 2013 20:13:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
So I posted a while ago about some issues I was having with warm starts.
Basically, after changing it my injectors and distributor cap and rotor as well as the cool on my 1980 900 T I adjusted the timing per someone's recommendation here and seemed to be running ok. I took it for a test drive, about 10 miles total during which I got gas and ran it through the car wash and brought it home with no incident.
Thinking it was now running fine, I jumped back in to run to a business meeting I had about 35 miles away and made it halfway before stalling at a red light at an interesection. I managed to get it started again and drove to the next light where it died again and would not start.
Having read something about someone having a similar issue, I popped out the fuel pump fuse and it started. When I jammed the fuse back in with the hope of keeping it running, it died again.
So- thinking about it and given I was 20 miles from home and my wife not able to pick me up ( or perhaps unwilling as she hates this car and the time I have spent on trying to get it running) I ran wires to the fuse box and managed to limp most of the way home by tapping them and riding the clutch as the engines revs dropped every time the fuel pump was triggered.
Interesting ride, until she had enough. Now it won't start at all.
I thought that maybe the distributor was just going. Now I am not sure.
Any help is appreciated.
