Replacing Fuel Tank Straps? Posted by McFly88DmC [Email] (#2934) [Profile/Gallery] (more from McFly88DmC) on Thu, 26 Sep 2013 07:17:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey all, it looks like it's time to replace both fuel tank straps on my '92 900. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and decided to take a peek this morning before taking the car out to work (you know, OCD). Needless to say I drove my other car today. The drivers side one looks like it is only holding together from the friction of the plastic guard and what little is left of the metal...rusty crusty. The passenger side one is solid but not much better. Fortunately I have a set of gently used straps I got a month or two ago.
How hard of a job is this to replace both straps? The tank is at most 1/4 full, probably less. Would using a floor jack on the middle of the tank w/a piece of plywood to spread the load be sufficient to keep the tank from dropping while I replace the straps one side at a time? Any special tricks to make this less of a pain? Thanks!!
