Not on a Saab but have used separate starter buttons. I did it once with one of the auto-parts-store "bump starter" button switches, and it didn't hold up, eventually burnt its contacts and had to give up and buy the proper OEM switch.
But no disasters. Be sure and be careful with the wiring, you don't want any shorts.
