APCs, red boxes, etc. Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Tue, 4 Feb 2014 07:00:39 In Reply to: Re: Circuit Board ID?, SaabStalker [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 3 Feb 2014 18:19:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yes there are red APC boxes that are actually red in color. They were tuned to provide an output of 175 HP rather than the stock 165 HP. I've forgotten exactly which special editions they came out in, but am sure someone will pipe in (Commemorative editions, maybe?).
There is also the popular "red box modification" to a standard black APC box. It is really a rather simple modification of the circuit board (replacement of 2 resistors, followed by retuning) that almost anyone that has a nearby Radio Shack nearby and knows how to use a soldering iron can do. Go over to the performance board and search "red box" or "red box mod" and you will have no trouble getting detailed instructions.
There are all sorts of do it yourself mods available. There's even a great now defunct forum (still open and available to read)with a wealth of information on how to modify the box, and tune it. That site was once a competitor of this site, and for that reason I cannot post a link to it directly, but it will be the #1 hit if you Google "900AERO APC modifying", typed exactly like that. Go to the Tech and DIY pages, there's some great stuff there and a number of different recipes for tweaking the APC box's circuit board.
