It's possible that the clutch had been replaced with an incorrect one. I ran into this on a car helping out a friend. The smaller clutch will work with a larger pressure plate. But, if you are trying to make higher horsepower, I wouldn't suggest using a smaller pressure plate.
The key is really the bolt pattern on the pressure plate -- Saab part number 8727208 is the turbo clutch, and 8727190 is the turbo pressure plate according to the EPC for the year 1990 up to 1993 / 1994 vert.
It's always possible that someone put in a flywheel with a different bolt pattern and clutch assembly to match that......I go with 9000 flywheels and bigger pressure plates, but not necessarily suggesting you do the same.
Are you taking off the flywheel to have it surfaced as well?
