Central locking door actuators question: repairable?

I have finally tackled the central locking issues on my 1988 900 turbo and 1988 8-valve. Thanks to the many posts in this forum, as well as a few links, I have been able to diagnose and repair non operational central locking in two cars.
I have a question regarding repairing the lock actuators. The ones that don't fire at all when energized, can they be repaired or rebuilt?
I see two hex bolts to get inside the mechanisms but I am wondering if there is any possible service procedure to bring these back to life. One post on this forum talks about lubricating it and bringing it back to life. Maybe they meant the lock mechanism itself was binding and lubricating the lock mechanism rather than the actuator was the solution.
The problem I have now is that I have three actuators from two cars that don't work. Before I toss them, I would like to be sure that there is no way they can be refurbished or brought back to life.
Anyone know how to do this?
