Drivability would improve if you replaced it with a straight pipe. Would feel more powerful, like gaining a few horsepower. How do I know? Scraped the bottom of my 1985 900 8 valve years ago & tore up parts of the exhaust. Since I was working on an island that year, and didn't have access or the immediate funds for doing proper replacement, replaced it with straight pipe. And the car loved it. Had to go back to catalytic converter obviously to pass emissions the next year.
