I also rigged up the fan in front of the turbo so I can manually turn it on when the car is warmed up, I like to keep this fan running to try and cool that area as much as possible. gas spraying on hot surfaces and electrical shorts are the main concerns. I have never experienced an under hood fire while driving but I imagine it can get pretty far along befor you even know it at highway speeds. Having a good and big fire extinguisher (not the small ones they typically promote for car use) may help, by the time you pull over and open the hood you will likely have quite a fire to deal with. For the fuel lines once you replace any that are worn or old you could try wrapping them in something so if the hose does leak you have a second layer to keep the gas from spraying on the exhaust manifold.
