Friend called and is 200 miles away. He trying to get here tomorrow. Only one small town in between. Currently his BATT light is sometimes on, sometimes off. Car still starts and runs. He staying in a motel in a small town. NAPA is across the street. He's not sure if his battery will make it 200 miles if the alternator goes out. He's thinking he'll have his older battery checked and charged in the morning. Also buy a new battery as backup. If his battery shorts out or his alternator dies soon after he hits the road how many miles can you drive on a new battery without a working charging system? Daytime drive: no lights, radio, fans, wipers etc, a couple stop signs. One pit stop in the woods, leave engine running.
