In my ongoing quest to do anything truly useful around the house (according to the boss) I've dealt with the brake problem (see recent posts and thanks to all for advise and good wishes) and have turned my attention to the radio antenna mast. It's been a few years since it worked, and I can't remember now whether that was before or after I had the receiver replaced by guys in blue and yellow shirts (BB). The fact remains thatat some point the antenna mast was broken off and I simply jammed a steel rod down through the vacant mounting hole and that was good enough for a while but I'd like to set it right.
So I ordered a replacement mast, but that hardly does much good unless the mast motor runs and as far as I can tell mine does not. Specifically, there is no sign of motor activity on power-up nor power-down. Clever fellow that I am. I removed the mast motor assembly from the car, took it to the work bench and used spade connectors and a 12V battery in hopes of isolating the problem from any upstream issues(did the geeks in blue shirts make sure that the connection/operation was sound?).
HOWEVER, nothing I have done will make the motor make even the slightest sign of life. The green/yellow wire connector feeds into a rectangular box that does something important, I guess, but I can't feed power through it and make the motor run in any sense. I even went downstream of that and tried jumping from the black ground to either of the yellow or green terminals, no go.
Bottom line and my question: How can I distinguish between a toasted mast motor and bad (upstream?) wiring issues?
