Check list for A/C fixing Posted by CBS [Email] (#969) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CBS) on Tue, 8 Jul 2014 09:46:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After an exhaustive search of the archives, I thought I'd try to put the sequence, how I personally understand it, of diagnosing and fixing a dead A/C system.
1) take it to established radiator/AC shop and have them evacuate the system and use dye to check for leaks. Question: do they have a way to determine if the compressor is bad?
2) already ordered Envirosafe refrigerant. Once they determine and fix leak(s) and determine if compressor is bad (in which case I'll order a Sako Seiki from A-air (can't remember the exact name of the place) for $275), I'll recharge with Envirosafe. Question: if I need a new compressor and decide to install it myself, would I need to have the system evacuated again before I recharge it? Question 2: by "evacuating" the system, does this mean I'll have to add new oil to the compressor before recharging it?
This seems pretty simple. There are varying opinions on replacing a lot of the other components, but since the Envirosafe is so similar to r12 -- you can even use the same oil -- I thought I would go as simple and cheap as possible. Am I missing anything?
