This may seem unlikely, but it did happen to me with my 93 900S: bad battery lead. I thought of that immediately when you mentioned a quiet die off after an off-ramp. That's exactly what happened to me and it turned-out to be a bad/corroded connection between the + (red) battery cable and the battery terminal. It didn't help that I was driving without a battery hold-down keeping it in place. My thinking is that flex in the cable upon g-forces associated with acceleration or other maneuvers was sufficient to disrupt power from/to the battery.
It's worth the look...
