Karl,
you can go swapping bits and thingies - and yes, you put the right ones onto the list - but I prefer another approach. You know, one shot one down (or measure thrice and cut once if you're more old-school): first troubleshoot and then replace. And here it depends on how it dies: does it misfire, does it smell like running rich or lean? Does it keep on running if you half-floor the pedal? What's the intake vacuum and what are the signal waveforms from the AMM and on the IAC? What voltage drop do you measure on the NTC (n.b.: to be measured not on NTC connector, but on the appropriate pins on the ECU connector)?
If tapping IAC affects the hunting idle then I'd first suspect the IAC itself and the wires between that very thing and the ECU. It's also worth checkin the intake for vacuum leaks (water-spray handy thing full of water is your easiest and safest bet).
