It happened to me recently that my brake lights were stuck on even when the ignition was turned off. I ended up taking the drivers seat out so I could lay on a pillow with my head under the dash, and I did not have to take knee bolster out to see up behind the brake peddle...i just sorta bent the plastic vent tube out of the way so I could see back up there. Mine is and '87T vert 5 speed, I seem to remember you may have a different brake light switch than me. In my case there is a metal bracket that the round brake light switch screwed into, and a nut needed to keep it in place (it was intact but so loose that it had lost contact with the peddle). The cruise control switches for the 5 speed are identical black cylinder switches that have vacuum tubes connected to them, one of them contacting the brake peddle and the other contacting the clutch peddle (no vacuum lines go to brake light switch, which is in my case white) Both the brake light switch and the brake peddle cruise control switch were screwed into the same bracket, losing contact when the peddle is pushed.
No way I could have figured that out without seeing up there via removing the seat. Also I did a search here, there is more info on this very repair posted.
Incidentally, for those with a turbo, the brake light being stuck on also affected my APC and was preventing full boost from occuring...boost came back when switch was fixed!
