Alternator Pulley-Is There a Key Underneath ? Posted by Roger D [Email] (#1121) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Roger D) on Thu, 11 Sep 2014 18:59:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Working on installing low miles alternator on my 92na. It's low miles because it sat for 15-20 years. The alternator test fine but the pulley grooves are very rusty. Alternator should be virgin. Took the pulley off with my impact and things kinda splattered around. Noticed the tapered shaft has a keyway machined into it. Didn't see a key around after disassembly. Went to the spare alternator. Pulley nut was very tight. I splattered parts again and didn't see a key around. Garage floor is pretty clean but there are many nooks and crannies around the fringes that could hide something that small for years. Did I lose 2 keys? Or is it left off those units?
