The few times I have encountered this, I have used an M7 bolt instead which are used at many places on the newer Volvo engines.
Tap the hole to M7 and in it goes. The hole in the slave cylinder is already big enough.
The slave cylinder really needs to be clamped down properly since it uses the transmission housing as a "stomp off" for every time it acts on the pressure plate, wanting to pull the bolts out if it could.
