Having begun the day working with my son to elevate the 900 sufficiently to clear the dolly wheel holders and extension ramps (jack from one side, place jack stand, move to the other side, rinse and repeat) we thought we had the tow dolly free and attempted to pull it out via the trailer hitch on the Durango. What I didn't foresee was that the uneven terrain forward of the dolly wheels/axle would contact the frame of the car, thus pulling it forward and off its jack stands. The car lurched forward and landed AHEAD of the wheel holders of the dolly.
It was then I decided to "Pay the Man" and called a wrecker service to come out with a boom truck. He was able to hoist the front end of the car quite evenly and high enough that we could liberate the dolly by hand. He then adjusted the alighment of the car vis the garage and tucked it back in a bit further so our property doesn't look as bad as it did with the car angled in awkwardly as resulted from my efforts.
I've nearly decided to try to sell it as is or take the parts that I think may be useful to me or some other in the future and then have the FrankenSaab sent to a salvage yard. I've been living on borrowed time-- 285k on the chassis and not nearly as rust-free as it was before 4 WI winters; a relativel;y young 16V motor at ~150k mi, but of course there is the blown transmission, so there's that.
If I strip it and send it off to the crusher (ouch!) I will likely take only the easily removed parts-- corner lenses and headlights, window switch packs, alternator, battery and tires, maybe even the headliner, as I did an R&R on that a couple of summers ago and the job turned out very well; it could save someone else the hassle. Nonetheless, there will remain some other parts worth snagging-- the remains of the transmission with inner drivers, the young motor and cylinder head, Bilsteins on the front, one or more recently replaced brake calipers. If I go that route I'll try to let you know when and where in the event anyone might have need of parts for a '93 900S.
Sigh...
