Just adjusted belts on mine, had a hassle and then figured out:
5/8" SAE or 16mm socket on a 3/8" drive ratchet, straight down thru the two heater core hoses. They move a bit, allow a few degrees turn of the wrench but with a ratchet a few clicks at a time is all you need. Loosen nut, adjust alternator tension with 10mm wrench on the adjuster nut (clockwise tightens belts, counterclockwise loosens), then reverse your ratchet and lock pivot bolt nut down tight again.
It's been several years since I pulled a C900 alternator so I'm not sure but I think the pivot's bolt-head end is held so it won't turn. If not, friction holds the bolt immobile enough to loosen and tighten the nut.
No snow here yet in my section of Maine but it's 22 degres Fahrenheit out right now and I'm not going to go stick my head under the hood.
I'm living the old English way here right now, furnace shut off in a big rambling house, gas kitchen stove heats that room morning and night and sometimes I light a wood fire in the living room stove. About 45 degrees in most of the house most of the time except on sunny days. This isn't one.
