There used to be a great tutorial with pictures online. It was for rebuilding an NG900 distributor, but the procedure is identical. The site seems to be down now.
The job is not difficult, but there are a few steps that would be easier with the tutorial. One critical thing is getting the drive gear off the bottom of the shaft. It is held on with a pin. It can be difficult to remove. You cannot hammer the pin out, it must be pressed out. I've done it plenty of times with just a bench vise. The tabs on the drive gear which engage the end of the camshaft are offset to one side of the center of the shaft. Mark the bottom of the shaft so that you are sure you put it back on the right way or your timing will be off 180 degrees.
The hall-effect wheel inside the distributor must be pulled off once the snap ring is off. I usually put the shaft of the dizzy in a vise and put two opposing flat blade screwdrivers through the openings in the side of the dizzy housing and under the wheel and just pry it up.
The plastic hall-effect pickup inside can be fragile from the constant heat it is under--be gentle.
There are a series of washers and whatnot inside as well. Make note of their location for reassembly.
The best way I've found to seat the new seal and the crimp washer that holds it in place is to get a long bolt big enough to reach through the distributor housing. Get a small washer big enough to cover the crimp washer at the top and a larger washer big enough to fit over the base of the distributor shaft. put the seal and the crimp washer in place. Slide the long bolt with the small washer through it so that it comes out the bottom of the dizzy shaft, put on the larger washer and a nut and then tighten the nut to force the crimp washer back into the seat in the dizzy to hold the seal in place.
