Mentioned in the origional post, I am completing a head gasket job, and I figured I would give the alternator attention while I have the intake and AC compressor out, and have easy access to it.
anyways, took it to the parts shop, and they bench tested it, and it came out good. Their machine just says "good" or "bad" on the regulator test, but doesn't really show voltage or anything unfortunatley. I'm going to trust their machine is working properly. I do have another regulator if, after I get the car back together, it's still giving trouble. I put that regulator in it about 5 years ago, and it was a pain in the a** trying to get it in such a confined space.
I made a new ground wire at the time out of a piece of 12 gauge wire, but I am thinking of going up to #8 wire just for the sake of it. The old #12 wire still looked good, but I just want to cover my bases.
Thanks for the suggestions though! I'm glad at this point, I don't need to spend any money on it
