I have found that these fans can burn out, and if you're really running them full time, then this may happen a lot faster. Also, driving the car should be plenty of cooling wind so you shouldn't have to run the fans unless you're sitting in traffic. they shouldn't turn on either unless you're sitting in traffic or driving in the desert.
Opposite to your angle, I deleted my AC, and use the switch to run the second fan when I am sitting in hot traffic in the summer.
I like having control over the second fan.
