Check your valve stem diameters with a micrometer to see if they are tapered from wear. They should be a consistent diameter along their length. Many say the guides do not wear, but I have seen stems wear. Like RS mentioned, check the wear using an indicator and confirm the amount of play allowed. It was interesting that you left the turbo in place when removing the head. I usually leave the turbo attached to the exhaust manifold. Does your method save time?
