With engine OFF and not running and no use of clutch: Shifting between gears still presents some difficulty sometimes shifting into a gear with 1st and 2nd being most problematic. Can motor mounts be eliminated due to the fact that the engine is not even running, thus not moving around on the mounts? Can the clutch/pilot bearing be eliminated due to the fact that engine is not running and clutch is not being engaged or disengaged?
When the shifter binds up and doesn't want to go into 1st for example, a quick rock back and forth to 2nd then back up to 1st usually allows to slip right into 1st.
I crawled under the car and looked at the shift coupler and it appears fine. It is the cylindrical type and the rubber is 100% intact and shows no splitting or odd movement when a friend went through shift motions. While I was watching the coupler and shift shaft action while under the car ... when it did bind up the whole transmission moved slightly.
