That's the NTC sensor (Negative thermal coefficient). It tells the ECU when the engine is below normal operating temperature and the ECU enriches the mixture with wider fuel injector pulses until the engine warms up. If you put a digital VOM across the two contacts in the sensor connector (unplug it) you should read 2600 ohms at 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 320 ohms at 176 degrees (engine warm) plus or minus 10% on both.
