I wasn't crazy about crimping the whole bunch of wires together, either. Especially because the wires are a mix of gauges and the small-gauge wires are a bit delicate when trying to strip them with the engine still in the car. (This car has had quite a few "I should have done that with the engine out" items.)
Not to mention that there wasn't a decent length of wire to work with.
I ended up making 4 groups of three wires, crimping them in butt splices and pigtailing the 4 butt splices to a crimp on the main lug. Everything got protected with marine heat-shrink tubing.
We'll see if there are any funky electrical effects after all of this. .
