With special thanks to Justin VanAbrahams for posting a great pic of the internals.

Results: Resistance is now to spec and super smooth throughout the pressure range.

Previous symptoms: Spikes of resistance throughout the pressure curve.

Method:

1. Cut through the top 3mm (crimped part) off of the outer sealed flange with a 2" pipe cutter while holding transducer can gently in a vice. The pipe cutter is of the "c-clamp" style that rotates while rolling the cutting wheel around the circumference. Makes a very clean cut and preserves the integrity of pressure fit can.

2. The remaining outer can may now be lightly tapped off from the base with a screwdriver.

3. Heat the solder connectors at the end of the can to release the wires and internals from the outer can.

4. Gently clean the resistance coil and the sliding contacts with rubbing alcohol and a strip of cotton t-shirt. These contacts were only lightly tarnished with carbon deposits.

5. Tested with mighty vac and resistance meter... works great now.. so smooth throughout the range, and within spec as per Bentley manual.

6. Re-assembly: pushing the wires back through and re-soldering to the connectors is the hardest part. I had to push fresh wire from the outside in and solder to the existing wire. Used heat shrink tubing to protect the exposed wire and carefully pushed the can back together without causing the wires to interfere with the sliding contacts. The can goes back together nice and snug.

7. Test again.

8. I suspect the can is sealed to prevent atmospheric pressure effects at altitude and to protect the fragile internals from the environment so I wrapped the flange with a hose clamp so that the can stays together under vibration and resealed with silicone at the seam.

Cheers,
Marcus
