I'll vote for you if you put in a thermostat with the little bypass.
And, then next time when you need to replace the thermostat, you just crack open the nipple with a rubber line on it that drapes over the side of the car into a milk gallon jug, take off the cap of the reservoir and blow into the reservoir and the coolant will drain right into the jug so you can put it back in later with no fuss or muss. Or mess.
I only use Saab OE thermostats and leave it at that. Just my strange way, but wonder how long those are going to be around if they read your post and decide to eliminate it......personally, I think that it serves a function and needs to be there. I point it directly at the bleed nipple just because......
