Hello,
Don't usually see turbo going failing due to head gasket failure. Yes sitting can be rough on the turbo especially if the h.g. failure put coolant in the oil and it was left that way in the turbo for a prolonged time.
One thing a h.g. failure that puts smoke out the tailpipe can cause is the cat melting. An easy way to check that would be to loosen the headpipe up after the turbo and run it and see if the boost improves. Also I would probably go back and check timing. Good Luck, Bernie
