"You can check the rheostat with a multimeter - one end to a bulb socket, one end to the correct pin on the connector. Measure resistance - if the resistance values increase steadily and don't go infinite, the rheostat probably isn't the issue."
Which connector are you talking about here? Can i do this without removing the dash?
The wiring harness in the 85 was crumbling in places so I replaced the entire harness with a 1990 parts car harness. I threw in the instrument panel from the 1990 too because it was newer and matched up with the wiring harness.
