Hello (maybe - if this forum works like the old days because I am too cheap to pay!) - after a dozen or so years since I last posted here.
I bought an 89 900s, 4-door a while back, after not having a saab since my 88 9000 died in 2004. Nice to have such a solid and ergonomic car again (but I preferred the grille, wheels, and less voluminous plastic side trim on my first one, the 83 900t!). In these interim years (and all others) the only car as good as the 900 was my 1985 BMW 318!
I have the Bentley manual and some other things fetched off the veb as reference, and have worked on quite a few Euro cars over the years (mostly back in the 90s though) so have that background/ability.
I'm hoping to get advice on a few small things to fix. I'll start with the trunk/boot lid since seems easy enough and I tried searching der Veb mit no results.
Two related issues here:
First, I have to put the key in and turn to about the 2 o'clock every time to be able to use the latch to unlock the trunk (I'd prefer to unlock it and leave it that way since I don't go to areas where it needs to always be locked! As is now, I can turn it so the key slot is at the 'level' position counterclockwise (always locked I assume) and the 'up-down' position (something else), but can't just unlock the ting and leave it unlocked. By the way, any electric 'central locking' is disabled or otherwise non-functional (thank goodness). Guessing some small tweakage to the lock mech inside the lid would do it so waiting advice!
The other thing is probably self-evident, but the boot/trunk lid needs adjustment - it's a little to far to the left, and is a wee higher than the rear sides when closed so maybe I need to to seat on the latch lower (the rubber adjusters are all the way in, so guess this needs latch adjustment). Other than taking a 13 or 15mm to the bolts on the lid mounts (and careful not to loosen them all and let the springs seize control!) and twiddling, what else do I need to know to do this properly?
Doesn't seem to have anything to do with misalignment, rear body damage/work, just time.
Any advice or directions or warnings?
Good, thanks!
