My 91 turbo was having trouble starting and once started ran rough, CEL light came on briefly and went out, checked it and found code 12214 -Coolant temp signal incorrect. Per Bentley I checked the resistance at the coolant temp sensor and it seemed correct so I reconnected the wire and checked the signal at Pin 13 and pin 17(GND)at the LH. There was no resistance between pin 13 and pin 17. Next I checked for ground at pin 17 and that tested good, out of habit I also checked for continuity between pin 13 and 17 and the multi-meter indicated that they were connected, in effect pin 13 was grounded, I confirmed that pin 13 was grounded. Next I removed the connector at the temp sensor and found that pin 1 was not grounded and pin 2 was as it should be.(Bentley P371-67) I then checked continuity between pin 1 and 13 and got nothing, Pin 2 and 17 showed continuity as expected. So it seems that the wire between Pin 1 at the temp sensor and pin 13 at the LH has been cut at some point and is grounding on the frame, perhaps at the firewall?

So before I open up the wiring harness is this my best option at this point? Anything I overlooked? Is there a common point where this kind of break would occur like the fire wall? Any advice on getting behind the air intake?
