Could be any number of things. Jack it up and take a look.
Here's a photo what I found in my convertible after the steering wheel demanded a whole new way of driving straight. You can see where the A-arm became discontinuous on the left side of the picture. The shiny bare metal is where the paint and rust were rubbed off by the part of the control arm that broke away from the shaft.
Typically the lower control arms are the ones that break.
