There probably is little or no difference. E-codes are iirc a euro beam profile standard, whereas DOT are an american standard (beam shape). There is obviously a difference between those in addition to the bulb difference and other mechanical details... I'm not sure the regulations here in canada, but iirc in the USA, technically you are not supposed to use ecodes as the beam profile is different than regulations? I would be careful though, as there may be differences for right hand drive vs left hand drive. The profile iirc is assymetric. So that might be the only thing to look for if you are ordering off ebay, but it sounds like you got some locally... my local source is a wrecker with numerous vintage saabs... the advantage of this is they are much cheaper usually than from ebay (though my pick and pull is hardly a bargain)...
