Driver door latch rod

Hi all. My driver key lock would turn and not open the door. Took door cover off and looked around. Fix was to put the metal rod back into the white plastic piece by the door lock. That worked for a couple weeks and the rod fell out again. Can the rod be glued in there? Is there a part that broke and is missing? Does the rod just need to be bent a little so that it stays? It's a manual door. Getting tired of opening driver door from passenger side!
Thanks!
