The stock throwout bearing (on my '84} was square edged and had no boot at all. These became hard to get in later years and were used with the old style slave. As "progress" was being made after GM took over the new combination of "improved" slave cylinder and radiused edged throwout bearing with the spring loaded bellows showed up as replacements and a redesigned to the fingers on the pressure plate. A lot of guys would clip the spring to get the throwout away from constantly rubbing on the pressure plate fingers. I already owned an old style straight fingered pressure plate and just put the unaltered bellows and radiused bearing on there. It functions, but rattles like crazy at certain rpms. My advice is to clip the spring as this constant contact setup will be lucky to go 30000 miles were the original went 150000.
