SAAB 900 ignition timing could be difficult to set if the correct mark is not located on the black plastic clutch cover. The 900 distributor employs a 5 degree pressure retard mechanism which allows for a reduction from base/set ignition timing when under full engine load/charging pressures.
At 16 dbtdc, the timing would be reduced to 11 dbtdc when under full engine load. If integrating a performance APC control unit for an increase in charging pressures, many customers opt to set the 900 base timing to 15 dbtdc which would provide a retard to 10 dbtdc when under engine load.
